Johnny and Emily Poon

this past weekend was our JP's wedding.

a little background info...

JP stands for Johnny Poon. we came up with JPGs because during our junior year in high school, the senior guys came up with a name for their discipleship group. they were called the NCDGs (Nacho Cheese Discipleship Group). we couldnt think of anything so we came up with the JPGs (Johnny Poon's Discipleship Group) yea we're really creative aren't we? anyways during senior year, our discipleship group went from 4 to 8 to 10. our friendship with each other became very real and authentic. we realized that we were all heading off to college soon and having real intimate friendships was more important than just having a good time. we took off our masks and decided to show each other who we really are. it wasnt easy for most of us, since we're guys after all... but i know from personal experience, it was worth the risk. the risk of the people you call your friends not really liking you for who you really are so you put on a mask and cover up the real you so that others will like you.

anyways... here we are now in college and JP got a married. it felt pretty good to be in the first church i ever went to. HCC - Houston Chinese Church. for the first 11 or 12 years of my life, i went to HCC on sunday mornings. i have lots and lots of memories of running around the church, but this past weekend, i was there for a different reason.

i havent been to a wedding since i was three or so...i just never thought i would like to go. this wedding was one of the most beautiful weddings i could have imagined. as i saw JP stand there with his groomsmen, he had this HUGE HUGE HUGE smile on his face, and somehow, when emily was walking down the aisle (this is when i cried a bit...) , his smile got even BIGGER. the wedding was not traditional at all, john lin sang a song by bebo norman which was really cool, and truman and his sister sang and played worship songs rather than the wedding song, very unique and i loved it. oh and when pastor ed said, "you may now kiss the bride." that was the first time they have ever kissed cuz JP shared with us that he promised her that their first kiss would be at the wedding altar. talk about mad props, you really dont see that anymore today... which is why JP is such an awesome role model for all of us.

during the reception, they had really good RANCH DRESSING. i know you may think thats kinda weird...but ask ANYONE there. the ranch dressing was really good. lex and i decided to be really cool and hang out at the punch bowl while everyone was arriving to the reception. heh. anyways during the dinner, JP and Emily had to make rounds to each table and man it was like paparrazzi. everytime they went to a different table, everyone would stand and tap their glasses so they kissed like 5023094u320942 times that night. eventually, they got around to our table, and JP went around the table and gave each one of us a hug. some of us wanted to be smart and wanted to try to kiss JP on the cheek, i think phil tried at first but didnt get it, then alex yang pulls off a quick peck on the cheek. as we raised our glasses to JP and Emily, one of us started tap our glasses, so the rest of us joined in.

as soon as JP and Emily go to the next table i hear, "OH CRAP!" come from david. as i looked down i see that my glass of ice tea has been shattered and the culprit just standing there with his fork in his hand. david said "OH CRAP I BROKE THE FREAKING GLASS!" and all of us just started to laugh. i guess he got so excited watching JP and Emily kiss that he lost control of his hand and spazzed or something and broke MY cup. so...i had glass everywhere, including in my food which i had to carefully remove...i never got another cup of ice tea... heh then there was a slide show which was really good as well.

anyways, i went and it was good. it was good.
